The Dresden-based company DEMECAN managed to receive the GMP certificate from the Saxon state authority for its cannabis production facility.
Berlin/Dresden, January 18, 2022 – DEMECAN, currently the only independent German cannabis producer for medical applications, has received the manufacturing permit from the Saxon state authority for its Dresden production facility in accordance with Section 13 AMG and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification. The GMP certification allows DEMECAN to produce dried cannabis as a medicinal product.

The certification, with international recognition, guarantees the quality requirements of medicinal products throughout the entire manufacturing process. GMP short for “Good Manufacturing Process”, stands for the highest manufacturing standards and the fact that the production is continuously controlled and independently monitored by pharmaceutical authorities.

Starting Q1/22, the company plans to sell their first cannabis flowers to German pharmacies, complementing their existing Florestura flower portfolio. The GMP certification now enables DEMECAN to produce its own medicines and to check their effectiveness based on clinical studies. Research in the medical cannabis field is important to verify the often-criticized benefits. DEMECAN wants to support this with its own resources and plans to start their first studies this year.
